RE: 2006 WW FK1900

I'd empty all the gas and start over with a fresh tank. I'd personally always run E rated tires, even though it may be overkill for an FK1900.

RE: Looking for advice....

We have a Rage'n but I can tell you from being on this board for several years that based on your list, people seem to be happiest with their KZ toy haulers AND service.

RE: Ranking the Toy Haulers

When we were looking, I thought the Cross Terrain line was the best built and Rage'n second. Have never seen a KZ in person but they seem pretty popular on here. We ended up buying a Rage'n and it's been great so far (9 out of 10). My only regret is we didn't buy a big 5th wheel to start with. If I was going to buy a new model today, my 1st stop would be at a dealer to look at the 34' Rage'n 5th wheel (with an aftermarket warranty of course :) When I first joined this board, I heard nothing but GREAT stuff about the Desert Fox line from Northwood. However, I've only seen 1 or 2 at the desert and you don't hear much about them on here any more. Raptors seem to be popular but the (2) people I know with them have had several issues. When I was lookingatthem (2006), I thought thier interiors were hideous so they were never really on the radar.

RE: Class A / Alcohol ?? for a CHP officer...

Why not. After all it's legal in a stretch limo. As long as the alcohol stays behind the driver, and he doesn't drink any. If I was the driver I wouldn't even have ANY open container near me. Not even coffee. You can even hire a private bus to drive you and a large group to a particular destination and the passengers can have a party on the bus with alcohol. This is what I presumed when I was asked the question. However, 23223(b) of the Calif vehicle code states "No passenger shall have in his or her posssesion, while in a motor vehicle upon a highway or on lands....any bottle, can or other receptacle containing any alcoholic beverage that has been open or a seal broken..." There is a small exception mentioned in the section but it relates to off road activity on the public lands. Soooo....not being a vehicle code expert by any means, I'm not sure where to find the motorhome exception right off. Thanks for your input though and until I learn otherwise, I'm inclined to go with your theory.

RE: Class A / Alcohol ?? for a CHP officer...

First off, I'm a LEO myself and have been for 20+ years. I work with and around the CHP on daily basis. I happen to be on a day off. My brother, who is going to rent a motorhome with some friends for a golf tournament, called and asked me the question. I said I didn't know for sure and would look into it. I never made any mention about DRIVING and drinking or drunk driving. I think I've seen the consequences of that more than anybody on this board....other than some other LEO types (like the CHP). "Chippies" is not a derogatory term. Oh and 352, you're right. I wouldn't get a ticket!! And I won't write them a ticket either!!!

Class A / Alcohol ?? for a CHP officer...

Any Chippies out there that can advise me if a passenger of a Class A can consume alcohol as the vehicle is driving down the road? How about a Class C? From reading 23223 VC, it doesn't appear any exceptions are made for motorhomes. Thanks!!

RE: Where 2 go? When it's last minute.....?

Not sure what you're after but I'm always able to find an open spot, spots that are FREE, up in Mammoth. It's 13000 degrees but I'm sure you can find some open areas in Ocotillo Wells, Glamis or Jawbone :)

RE: New Ragen Toy Hauler - Towing Help

I don't always agree with 767CAPT but I thought his "jab" at Chipster was in jest and he didn't call anybody out by name. Chipster is the one that over-reacted and went into the personal attack mode. Every military pilot I know, and I ride with several, has a college degree. My nephew wanted to be a pilot but to fly anything other than helo's in the Army, he was told he was going to need a college degree. Instead, he a crew chief on C130's in the Air Force.

RE: another tire question

Yes, E rated tires....or at least I would assume. I have a 26' model and need E rated tires. For the $$, the BFG A/T tires seem to be the best rated at 3750 lbs (on 285/75R16 at least). I like Toyo's better but they are $250 more and have a 3740 lb rating.

RE: Would you buy a new Ragen ........

That's a great deal and I would have bought one too if I was in your position **HOWEVER** I would get some type of extended warranty. I don't generally get them either but in the (2) years we've had our Rage'n, the entire water heater unit has been replaced, the A/C was repaired and my Onan 5500 had issues (covered by Onan but you get the idea)...and I just discovred my front fiberglass cap has a 12-15" long crack. I used duct tape to secure it for my trip but when you look closely, you can see spider cracks all over. Not sure what I'm gonna do about repaire for it at this point.

RE: Tire recommendations for tow vehicle...updated!!

Actually, my problem is that all the wheels I like (black or black teflon) are NOT made in the 16" size for my truck (8 lug). That is why I'm looking to a 17 or 18" wheel. I'm just baffled how the load ratings go down from a 16" to 17" tire but go way back up for an 18"?!?

RE: Tire recommendations for tow vehicle...updated!!

OK, these tire manufacturers have me baffled with where they come up with their load ratings. I've narrowed my choices down to (3) tires...for now. TOYO Open Country MT (all E rated): 285/75R16 3740 lbs 285/75R17 3195 lbs...why the big drop? 285/75R18 4080 lbs TOYO Open Country AT: 16 3305 lbs...D rated 17 3970 lbs...E rated and a huge JUMP rtaher than DROP like on the 17" MT 18 4080 lbs...E rated BFG A/T: 16 3750 lbs 17 3195 lbs...D rated and another big drop like the Toyo MT 18 3640 lbs...E rated but no increase from the 16" like the Toyo models? What confuses me the most is why the big drop on the Toyo MT and BFG when you go to a 17" but it doesn't continue to drop when you go to the 18"? I want to get new wheels too (leaning to American Racing ATX series "Thug") but there's slim pickings in 16" wheels. next step would be to go to 17" wheel but tire ratings drop is a downer. That leaves me moving up to an 18" wheel. The wheels are only $14 more but the tires go up alot!! However, since it's a tow vehicle only, that 4000 lb per tire tow capacity does sound pretty nice on the Toyo models. I've had BFG A/T's many time and they were fine everywhere but the snow for me. I've had (2) sets of the Toyo AT's in the past and they were awesome, 2nd only to Bridgestone REVO's Ive had but are only made in D rated. I love the looks of the Toyo MT but may go BFG if $$ becomes a factor when i pull the trigger next month. Thanks for all the input so far.

Tire recommendations for tow vehicle...updated!!

Towing a 26' Rage'n that is about 12000 fully loaded. I'm pulling it with a 2005 GMC Duramax 4WD CC SWD. I have no problems in the power department. However, I need some new E rated tires. I made the mistake of letting tire dealer convince me that some D rated Pirelli Scorpions would be okay. They never felt just right but after 20K miles, the rear tires warped this weekend on a return trip from Mammoth. It looks like the weight & the 100 degree heat caused the (2) rear tires to "warp". It was so bad my front end was shaking if I drove over 30 MPH. I had to un-hitch and go into Victorville to get new tires. The shop also only had D rated tires but that was OK to get me home. Now I need to find some E rated tires. I currently have P285/75R16 tires but will switch to a 17" wheel if necessary. This is not a daily driver vehicle so ride "quality/comfort" takes a back seat to towing a heavy load safely. Anybody have any ideas for me? All the brochures I was looking thru at the shop showed pretty slim pickings in my current tire size.

RE: New Ragen Toy Hauler - Towing Help

I have the 26' version of that trailer as well. I pull it with a 2005 GMC Duramax 4WD CC SWD. I installed a Class V hitch and use the Equalizer tow bars. I have no problems pulling the fully loaded trailer **BUT** I just found out this weekend I have a major weight issue with my truck tires. I let the salesman at Evans Tires convince me that I could get away with a D rated tire. The tires held up for several trips over the winter but bit the dust this weekend. I think the weight, plus the 100 degree heat on Hwy 395 is what caused the tire to "warp". Either that or the steel belting gave way on the inside of both rear tires.

RE: TV Tires BFG vs Toyo

I've never had a real problem with the BFG's but the Toyo's are definitely better IMO. The best tires I've ever had though were the Bridgestone REVO's. I made the mistake of replacing them with a Pirelli model I have now. They are fine for everyday use but are squirrely when pulling the toy hauler and have been wearing quickly. I'll be getting new tires before desert season starts and will either get E rated Toyo's or the REVO'....whichever I can get a better deal on.

RE: Rejet?

Jason I ride an similar elevations, Sea Level to 5,000 and it runs fine. Last year I went to Utah and at Bryce & the Paiute I had some major power issues on the higher elevation trails. I wouldn't go back without a rejet now. In fact I'm looking at putting in the dial-a-jets in our ATVs. I was on one trail that I was lucky to be going 10MPH on. For just a 1/2 day its a tough call, but I would say get it jetted. I guess we're the opposite. We live at sea level and when we go riding in Durango and Mammoth, I never re-jet (except the 2 stroke) and have never had any issues. We ride anywhere from 6000' and have been up to 13000'. I don't notice any power loss, though I'm not saying there isn't some. Our bikes ride just fine and I've yet to foul a single plug (knock on wood). Leaving next week to Mammoth for 6 days and won't re-jet the 4 strokes. The 2 stroke is already done.

RE: Glass Creek or Hartley springs.

No # that I'm aware of. Going on a friday afternoon has to lower your chances as I'm sure most people arrive on fridays. I've never arrived on a friday but I've never had a problem finding spot. Glass Creek is definitely bigger, flatter and easier to manuever around in than Hartley Springs. More people also go to Glass Creek for those reasons as well. Two years ago, we arrived on a sunday in the early evening and were the only people at Hartley while Glass Creek had 10-12 RV's. Have fun, I'm coming up next tuesday with a big group and we're winging it as well. We'll try Glass Creek firt but Hartley and Deadman's are options as well.

RE: Warrior's assets siezed

That may be Shawn but your timing of leaving Giant and then the news of WW being in trouble is interetsing to say the least. me thinks you had some inside info and got out while the getting was good. By the way, we couldn't be happier with out Rage'n but I do wish I would have bought a 3405 from the get-go.

RE: WW BK?????

I don't know if they filed BK or not but I'm willing to bet everything I own that Mark wouldn't tell you if they did because THAT would be bad for business as well. Kind of like every pro sport where you hear the GM say that he has complete confidence in his manager/coach and he's gone within a week.

RE: towing 18' weekend warrior?

I think you will be fine just as long as you stay with the SUPERLITE models, 21' or below. I can tell you for a fact that our friends tried pulling the 23' model with thier F150 and lasted (2) trips before having engine issues. They have since bought a diesel.
